The earthquake occurred near Taitung on the southeast coast at depth of 7 kilometers.

The epicentre of the earthquake was in Taitung , which had seen a 6.4 magnitude temblor on Saturday and so many aftershocks since then.

There have been numerous tremors in the same area after is struck by an earthquake on Saturday with a huge magnitude of 6.6.

Sunday's quake was much stronger then earlier one’s it almost 7.2 magnitude as starting reports are suggested.

The China Earthquake Network Centre said tremors were also felt in near coastal areas including Fujian, Guangdong, Jiangsu and Shanghai.

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami advisory for several southern Japanese islands near Taiwan but later they lifted it.

Due to its location at the meeting point of two tectonic plates, earthquakes are very likely in Taiwan.

In 2016, a quake in southern Taiwan claimed the lives of over 100 people. A 7.3 magnitude quake in 1999 claimed the lives of over 2,000 people.
